Remembering Jimmy Carter

Let the memory of President Carter inspire each of us to know that we have the power to make a difference for good.

Like everyone in the United States and Georgia, we mourn the life of President Jimmy Carter, our 39th President of the United States, who was not only a leader but an example of kindness, wisdom and service to us all.

Nov 2023 CoverBorn on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, Carter’s journey instilled in him a deep sense of responsibility toward others, to become Georgia Governor and eventually President. He had an unstoppable dedication to human rights and social justice that truly defined his legacy. He worked tirelessly to broker peace agreements, especially the Camp David Accords, which brought hope for peace to the Middle East. Carter continuted his service through The Carter Center After his presidency. His work in eradicating diseases, promoting fair elections, and advocating for the oppressed has touched countless lives around the globe. He embodies the spirit of service, often exemplified by his life spent working alongside volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, building homes for those in need.

Jimmy Carter’s legacy looms large for Georgians like me who got to experience his presidency in the 70s. It enhanced Georgia’s reputation as one of the only southern states not trapped in the past. His courage and vision got people thinking about issues of the future well before they reached today’s crisis pitch. His Christian values and service were an inspiration to all, and his accomplishments post term set the model life standard for any former president. As we mourn his passing we can celebrate all he has added to our lives. President Carter was a friend to Georgia Trend and we will miss him greatly. – Publisher Ben Young
