Lockheed’s C-130J wins “Coolest Thing Made in Georgia” competition

Jack Lindner reports that Lockheed Martin’s Marietta-made C-130J Super Hercules aircraft walked away with the title of “Coolest Thing Made in Georgia” during the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural competition Wednesday. Rod McLean, Lockheed’s vice president and general manager of Air Mobility and Maritime Missions, said the defense contractor was proud to receive the honor.

Emma Hurt reports, last year the Atlanta Regional Commission and a host of local communities and organizations around the Atlanta airport celebrated a nearly $65 million win. The federal government awarded the group a grant to jump-start a 31-mile trail plan that would connect the Atlanta Beltline to East Point, Hapeville and College Park as well as communities along the Flint River south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Chatham County buys marsh island as green space

Mary Landers reports that Chatham County added more than 400 acres of green space to its county real estate portfolio with the Aug. 12 purchase of Green Island for $6 million. The undeveloped island sits on the Intracoastal Waterway off the southern end of Skidaway Island surrounded by Green Island Sound to the south and Delegal Creek and marshlands on the east, north and west sides.
