Cupid Highlights Economic Growth, Transit and Stormwater Needs in State of the County Address

Isabelle Manders reports that Lisa Cupid, chair of the Cobb Board of Commissioners, touched on healthcare access, education, transportation and stormwater in her State of the County address to the Cobb Chamber of Commerce Monday. Similar to her community State of the County speech last month at the Riverside EpiCenter, Cupid continued with her theme of gratitude in her talk to the chamber.

Amazon will build a new 1.6 million-square-foot facility in Hogansville, a small city of about 3,200 residents in Troup County.

Michael Hall reports that the Southeast Georgia Health System has a new leader. The hospital and health care system named Christy Jordan as its next president and chief executive officer on Monday. Jordan, who served as interim CEO, stepped into the position officially starting at the beginning of this month.

Camden agency sues Jacoby Development over Cumberland Inlet debt

Maggie Lee reports that Camden County’s development agency wants a court to force an Atlanta developer to repay a seed loan that was meant to transform the site of the former Gilman Paper Mill site into an eco-resort alongside homes, shops and restaurants. The legal action comes amid bankruptcy proceedings by the owner of the site, JDI-Cumberland Inlet, a company formed in 2020 by the Atlanta real estate developer, Jacoby Development, and a minority partner.

Northwest Georgia Housing Authority Cuts More Programs, CEO declines to elaborate

Mo Burge reports, the shakeup at the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority continues as more programs are slashed in the name of streamlining operations, officials recently announced. “As part of a necessary organizational restructuring to align operational expenses with current revenue, the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority (NWGHA) has implemented a reduction in force,” said housing authority CEO Justin Jones in a statement.
