$14.5M in reimbursements given to Georgia, several states for meat, poultry inspection programs

Miles Montgomery reports that the United States Department of Agriculture announced multi-million dollars in reimbursements for meat and poultry inspection programs to several states including Georgia. Georgia is among several states that will receive $14.5 million in reimbursements for meat and poultry inspection programs, according to Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper.

Georgia schools accountability agency gets new leader

Ty Tagami reports that a state agency created two decades ago to hold Georgia public schools accountable for student performance will have a new interim leader. Gov. Brian Kemp’s policy director, Ian Caraway, will take over as the interim executive director of the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement following the retirement of executive director Joy Hawkins, who served in the role for a half dozen years, Kemp’s office said Tuesday.

Georgia Secretary of State to rule on Public Service Commission candidate qualification

Stanley Dunlap reports that the Georgia Secretary of State’s office will decide on Wednesday whether Public Service Commission candidate Daniel Blackman can remain on the ballot for the Democratic primary on June 17. On Tuesday, the first day of early voting in two statewide PSC races, Administrative Court Judge Dominic Capraro ruled in an initial decision that Blackman does not meet the residency requirements to be a candidate for a metro Atlanta Public Service Commission seat.
