Irving Tissue to Expand, Invest $600 Million

Staff reports that Gov. Kemp on Thursday announced that Irving Tissue will add at least 100 new jobs as part of a nearly $600 million expansion at its Macon facility. Company President Robert K. Irving, Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and other state and local leadership celebrated the announcement at Irving Tissue’s fifth anniversary celebration in Macon.

At Thursday’s hearing, transgender women and allies argued that vanishingly few transgender women participate in school sports, and those who do are largely not at the top of the competitive heap.

Georgia disbands Maternal Mortality Committee after leak of confidential information

Jess Mador reports that the Georgia Department of Public Health is disbanding a board that tracks critical maternal mortality health data. The move follows a state probe into a leak of confidential information to the national investigative news outlet ProPublica, which recently reported on two deaths linked to Georgia’s abortion restrictions. The Maternal Mortality Review Committee’s members include dozens of doctors, nurses, epidemiologists and other maternal health experts, who investigate every single reported maternal death in Georgia within a year of pregnancy.

Study committee proposal allocates $5 million to study MDMA, psilocybin for PTSD treatment

Maya Homan reports that the Senate Study Committee on Veterans’ Mental Health and Housing presented its recommendations for the upcoming legislative session at a Wednesday meeting, urging state officials to allocate $5 million for research on how drugs like MDMA and psilocybin can be used to treat PTSD. Psychedelic drugs like MDMA (more commonly known as ecstasy) and psilocybin (a compound found in certain forms of mushrooms) are increasingly being used in clinical settings to treat a variety of mental health issues.

Audit confirms Trump carried Georgia

A hand count of randomly selected ballots in all 159 counties gave Trump 11 more votes than he received from the machine count after the polls closed on Election Night, while Harris received six fewer votes.
