Ted Turner: Honoring a Life of Giving
Late media mogul and hometown hero Ted Turner will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a luncheon celebrating National Philanthropy Day in November.
The Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is hosting the event at the Georgia Aquarium.

In addition to Turner’s historic $1 billion donation to the United Nations in 1997, over the course of his lifetime the late CNN founder bought and conserved more than 2 million acres across multiple states. He was nominated for the award by the Captain Planet Foundation and the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.
Also being honored at the luncheon are Angie and Sam Allen, who will be named Philanthropists of the Year for all they have done to make access to education, healthcare and economic mobility more equitable.
Esther and Jim Stokes will be named Volunteer Fundraisers of the Year for their commitment to conservation and protecting the environment.
And Lauren Koontz, the first woman president and CEO of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, will get the Philanthropic Leader of the Year Award.
This year will mark the 40th anniversary of National Philanthropy Day.
