In Memoriam: Tom Cousins
A titan of Atlanta. That’s the best way I can think of to describe Atlanta native Tom Cousins, who passed away Tuesday. He was a great partner and friend to my family, working on multiple projects with my father Neely Young, including Georgia Trend, which he owned with the two of us for several years prior to 2017, when we were purchased by the Morris Media Group. He will be missed and remembered.
From Susan Percy’s 2012 profile: “Tom Cousins developed CNN Center, 191 Peachtree Tower, Bank of America Plaza and the old Omni Coliseum. His philanthropic track record is more than a match for his business success.”

Cousins owned the original Atlanta Hawks and was responsible for bringing the PGA Tour to Atlanta. Active in the revitalization of troubled neighborhoods, his East Lake Foundation led to the creation of Purpose Built Communities, active with similar projects in 14 states and five Georgia cities.
