‘We Haven’t Forgotten’: Atlanta Braves Honor 23rd Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

Isabelle Manders reports, hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement and civilians honored the lives of first responders and individuals impacted by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks during the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Saturday morning. More than 400 firefighters and civilians climbed the 2,200 steps at Truist Park, symbolizing the 110 flights of stairs the New York City Fire Department firefighters took to ascend the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

9/11 Memorial 5K honors heroes and supports veterans

Caison Kirkland reports, on Saturday morning, downtown Valdosta was filled with runners and local supporters as the community came together for the fourth annual 9/11 Memorial 5K. With nearly 400 registrations, the event drew people from across the area to honor the lives lost on September 11th, 2001.

Savannah Sicurella reports, BlueStar Studios, a metro Atlanta filming campus on the site of the former Fort Gillem, is marketing itself for sale in a bid to either find fresh investors or new ownership amid a slow period of production in Georgia. The campus, which includes six buildings, was listed on commercial property marketplace LoopNet in late August.

August Net Tax Revenues Up 2.4%

Staff reports, the State of Georgia’s net tax collections during the month of August totaled nearly $2.34 billion, an increase of $54.3 million or 2.4 percent compared to August 2023 (FY 2024), when net tax collections totaled $2.28 billion.  Year to date, net tax revenue collections totaled $4.90 billion, for an increase of $120.6 million or 2.5 percent compared to FY 2024 when net tax collections totaled $4.78 billion after two months.

Plugging in: Georgia accelerates past 100,000 electric-vehicle registrations

John Deem reports, more than 100,000 Georgia drivers are choosing to plug in rather than fill up. As of Monday, there were 100,042 registered electric vehicles in the state, according to data from the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Biden administration gives $40 million in grants to fund bridge over Lenox Road/400, other Georgia projects

Jasmine Robinson reports that on Thursday, the Biden Administration announced $40 million in grants for projects that aim to improve driver and pedestrian safety on Georgia’s roads. In Atlanta, $10 million will be spent on the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the intersection of Lenox Road and GA400 in Buckhead.

Columbus Airport gets $24M to rebuild a runway. How will construction impact flights?

Jeremy Chisenhall reports that the Columbus Airport is getting big money from the federal government to help fully reconstruct a runway, the Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday. The FAA will provide $24.4 million to the Columbus Airport to reconstruct runway 6/24, which needs to be rebuilt due to normal wear and tear and storm drain issues.

Delta planes collide on taxiways at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport; NTSB investigating

Staff reports that the collision of two Delta Air Lines planes at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. According to Delta Air Lines, the wing of an Airbus A350 taxiing out as DL295 from Atlanta to Tokyo-Haneda made contact with the tail of an Endeavor Air CRJ-900, DL5526 to LaFayette, Louisiana, on an adjacent taxiway, resulting in damage to the tail of the regional jet and the wing of the A350.

Susan Percy reports, Russell T. Keen, a 22-year veteran of the University System of Georgia (USG), became Augusta University’s president following the retirement of Brooks Keel at the end of the 2023-24 academic year. Keen was most recently executive vice president for administration and chief of staff to the president at the Augusta school, a research institution that houses the Medical College of Georgia and the Dental College of Georgia.

Trump leading Harris in Georgia in latest poll

Dave Williams reports that former President Donald Trump is holding a slight lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in Georgia, according to a new poll. The survey of 969 likely voters conducted Sept. 4-Sept. 8 by Quinnipiac University showed Republican Trump with 49% of the vote to 45% for Democrat Harris, and 1% each for independent Cornel West and socialist Claudia De la Cruz.
