Unofficial Guide Issue 6.02: Eat, Visit, Do, and Shop

Ice cream in Savannah, puppies in Atlanta, South GA swamps, and Middle GA comics.

It’s officially “out of school for the summer” season and everybody in the house is likely bored already. Need to get out of the house but don’t know what to do?

We like to share some of our favorite things about Georgia – places to eat, sights to visit, things to do, stores to shop. Follow along as we take you to all corners of the state in this series.

June 2

Eat: I scream. You scream. We all… you know the drill. At Leopold’s Ice Cream in Savannah, if you can imagine the ice cream flavor, they probably have it. Get the ice cream in a sundae, a float, as an ice cream sandwich. I’d be hard pressed not to visit twice in a day – once for Tutti Frutti (Rum ice cream with candied fruits and roasted Georgia pecans) and once for Savannah Socialite (Milk and dark chocolate ice creams with roasted Georgia Pecans and swirled with homemade bourbon infused caramel). They’ve been around for 107 years, so I think their reputation speaks for itself.

Visit: In the swampiest area of Southwest Georgia, Okefenokee Adventures in Folkston gives you an opportunity to explore the Okefenokee. Take a guided boat tour or a sunset prairie tour. If you’re feeling adventurous, rent a kayak, canoe, or bike and explore the hidden corners of the swamp. Being last minute can be fun, but for this one, you should make a reservation ahead of time.

Do: Puppies & Yoga (locations in Atlanta and East Point). Need a serotonin boost, some cuddles from puppies, and maybe a little yoga? Puppies & Yoga offers 75 minute sessions that feature 45 minutes of all level yoga followed by 30 minutes of play and cuddles with 8-12 week old puppies. These pups come from vetted and trusted breeders, are given plenty of food, water, and treats during sessions, can sleep when they want, and get fun socialization with humans and other puppies.

Shop: Heroes & Villains Comics and Games in Warner Robins has been around since 2004 and is a fully stocked, award-winning hub for comics, card games, roleplaying games, collectibles, and more. They also focus on giving back to the community around them by donating canned goods to their local food pantries as well as comics to local schools and hospitals, packing backpacks for back-to-school, and beginner-friendly events in their store.
