German Sensor Company Invests $1.2M in Gwinnett

Trevor Williams reports that a German provider of optical sensor technology is investing $1.2 million to move its U.S. headquarters from Michigan to Gwinnett County. Leuze electronic Inc. plans to hire 17 people at its facility on Northmont Parkway in unincorporated Duluth, where a grand opening celebration was held March 13.

Drew Kann reports, in the 130 years Lawton Pearson’s family has been growing peaches in Middle Georgia, few harvests have been as disappointing as last year’s, when his crop — and most others in the state — were almost entirely wiped out by two March cold snaps. Trees covered with quarter-sized fruit and delicate pink flowers were blasted by last year’s freezes, leaving the promise of an ample harvest to rot, prompting the federal government to declare a disaster across the heart of Georgia’s peach country.

GNTC, Atrium Health Floyd Pact Aims to Fill Healthcare Gap

According to the agreement signed Wednesday, Atrium Health Floyd will commit approximately $1.1 million to be disbursed over five years to increase the programs at GNTC’s Floyd County Campus in Rome.

Ossoff Announces Federal Funding For Local Affordable Housing

Its audit not completed for a second year, Dougherty County misses out on $558,000 in transportation funds

Carlton Fletcher reports that Dougherty County missed out on more than a half-million dollars in road improvement funds because, for the second consecutive year, county officials did not complete an annual audit required by the state of Georgia. But the county’s interim administrator said the issue is not one of omission, instead is the result of a glut in past-due audits being completed by a shrinking number of accounting firms.
