Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson again named world’s busiest airport with over 100 million passengers

Kenny Murry reports that Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has once again been named the busiest airport worldwide. According to Airport Council International (ACI), the facility saw approximately 104.7 million passengers come through its terminals in 2023.

Michael E. Kanell reports, Georgia has been consistently on the plus side, the number of movers-in greater than the departures. Last year, the state had the metro area with the third-largest growth in the nation (Atlanta) and the county with the country’s fourth-highest percentage growth (Jackson), according to recent calculations by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Atrium, Harbin Merger Finalized After FTC Review

John Bailey reports that Atrium Health Floyd and Harbin Clinic finalized the merger between the two entities Monday after a Federal Trade Commission review. The merger between the Harbin Clinic multi-specialty physician group and Atrium Health Floyd, part of the North Carolina-based Advocate Health system, has been in the works over the past year and a half.

Kemp Touts Tax Cuts and Economic Growth at Cobb Chamber

Jake Busch reports, next door to Truist Park Monday, Gov. Brian Kemp did his own victory lap in a speech to the Cobb Chamber of Commerce recapping the legislative session. Before a packed room at the Coca-Cola Roxy, Kemp reflected on the 2024 legislative session by highlighting everything from income tax cuts to the MLB All-Star Game and FIFA World Cup coming to the area — the All-Star Game will be played at Truist Park — in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

Pigmental Studios announce $200 million complex in St. Marys

Gordon Jackson reports that Pigmental Studios signed an agreement last fall to purchase a 67-acre tract at what is now called St. Marys Commerce Park. Now, the studio that has produced animation hits such as “Despicable Me” and “Household Pests” has announced plans for a $200 million studio complex at the site near downtown St. Marys.

Staff reports that Albany State University has been named the top winner in  its cluster for the $150,000 Home Depot Retool Your School Campus Improvement Grant challenge. Also, Ivory Lucas, executive director of facilities, planning, design and construction at ASU, has been named a Legacy Honoree by The Home Depot for his work over the years on various Retool Your School projects on campus.

Tammy Joyner reports that the nation’s largest gathering of Black lawmakers is slated to meet in Atlanta this summer to discuss ways to boost voter participation nationwide ahead of the upcoming fall elections. The meeting will be the precursor to a series of events the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus plans to hold heading into the November presidential election.

Casey Quinlan reports that the economy is top of mind for caregiver and driver Jennifer Garner as the U.S. heads toward the November presidential election. Garner, 46, lives in Cleveland and can bring in about $800 a week working extra hours at both jobs. But between debt payments on $56,000 in student loans and $1,300 in rent — among other monthly bills — the money doesn’t go far enough.

The success of Johnson’s plan could hinge on a small group of House members that include U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
