Tesla and Honda Contracts Lead to $22 Million Expansion at Rome’s F&P Facility

John Bailey reports, in the second big business announcement this week, one of Floyd County’s largest employers, F&P Georgia, announced that it will be conducting a $22 million expansion to its facility as a result of contracts with automakers Honda and Tesla. F&P’s facility, located on 51 acres of the Floyd County Industrial Park, is a tier one automotive supplier and this is only the most recent of a series of expansions at the company’s Rome plant.

Atlanta insurance technology startup raises $10 million

Mirtha Donastorg reports that Layr, a Buckhead-based insurance technology startup, announced Wednesday it has raised a new $10 million investment. Layr, part of a segment of companies in the insurance technology or “insurtech” sector, helps independent, privately held insurance agencies and brokers automate and digitize property, liability and casualty insurance for small businesses.

More than 450 jobs are coming to Laurens County as auto parts company opens facility

Jenna Eason reports that Laurens County will see nearly 500 new jobs come to the area after an international automotive parts company opens their new manufacturing facility. Hwashin plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Dublin, which will create around 460 jobs and bring more than $176 million investment to Laurens County, according to a news release from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s Office.

Gulfstream heralds opening of 142,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Savannah

Amy Paige Condon reports, on Tuesday morning, President of Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. Mark Burns announced the completion of a 142,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at the company’s headquarters in Savannah, but the soon-to-be certified G700 received much of the crowd’s attention. Burns said the G700 likely would receive final Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval by the end of the year, and the first 20 to roll off the production line would be delivered soon thereafter.

Georgia coalition wins $250 million grant for energy grid upgrades

Mark Lannaman reports, the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA), along with a coalition of partners, announced a grant on Oct. 18 from the Department of Energy for $250 million for the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program, which is aimed at enhancing resiliency and flexibility of the electric grid. GRIP is a product of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed into law by President Biden in Nov. 2021 and looks to, “ensure the reliability of the power sector’s infrastructure, so all American communities have access to affordable, reliable, clean electricity anytime,” according to its website.

Qcells donates $64,000 to Dalton and Cartersville Boys & Girls Clubs

Staff reports that Qcells donated a total of $64,000 to local chapters of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Georgia. Both the Dalton and Cartersville locations will receive $32,000. The gift was given to leaders of the Boys & Girls Club during a reception at Qcells’ solar panel manufacturing facility in Dalton.

Free Lyft rides for jobseekers through new Augusta-led program

Abraham Kenmore reports, Augusta is partnering with a number of other organizations to get jobseeker’s rides through the end of December. In an announcement Monday, the office of Mayor Garnett Johnson said that the program involves collaboration with the White House, Lyft, the United Way of the CSRA and the Community Foundation of the CSRA.

Kemp asking Georgia lawmakers to back another Savannah Harbor deepening

Dave Williams reports that Gov. Brian Kemp urged members of Georgia’s congressional delegation Monday to support a request by the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) for a study of the economic and environmental impacts of another deepening of Savannah Harbor. The ports authority is asking Congress to approve the study as part of the Water Resources Development Act federal lawmakers are due to consider next year.

Adam Van Brimmer, Patricia Murphy, Greg Bluestein and Tia Mitchell report that U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff renewed warnings Tuesday that a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza would threaten regional stability in the Middle East. He called on Israel to allow more food, medicine and other aid supplies into the enclave.
