Walmart to build dairy processing facility in Valdosta

Kasmira Smith reports that multinational retailer Walmart announced Wednesday that it will build a milk processing facility in Valdosta. Officials predicted the construction will create more than 3,800 jobs and the facility itself will employ almost 400 people.

Delta reports $1.1 billion profit and record third-quarter revenue

Kelly Yamanouchi reports that Delta Air Lines brought in a record $15.49 billion in third quarter revenue, but is nearing the end of a period of rapid growth during the rebound in travel from the COVID-19 pandemic. Atlanta-based Delta reported $1.1 billion in net income for the July-to-September quarter, up from its $695 million profit a year ago.

Aeroméxico-Delta Partnership to Help Atlantans Reach Five Mexican Cities

Trevor Williams reports that Atlanta is set to gain deeper access to five Mexican cities through Delta Air Lines Inc.’s joint-venture partnership with Aeroméxico. Bolstered by the delivery of 50 new aircraft, the Mexican flag carrier is introducing 17 new routes from seven Mexican airports to nine U.S. destinations by next year, part of an effort to better connect “the largest trans-border air market in the world,” Delta said in a release.

Suniva to restart solar cell plant in Gwinnett County

Dave Williams reports that a U.S. solar cell manufacturer that went bankrupt six years ago amid competition from a glut of cheap Asian solar panels announced Wednesday it is restarting its manufacturing plant in Norcross. Suniva, which began as a Georgia Tech spinoff, secured a $110 million commitment earlier this year from Orion Infrastructure Capital (OIC) to finance the upgrading, expansion, and restarting of the Gwinnett County plant.

Adam Van Brimmer, Tia Mitchell, Patricia Murphy and Greg Bluestein report that chaos and uncertainty in the U.S. House continued Thursday as U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise cobbled together just enough votes to be designated as his party’s choice as the next speaker — but not enough in a divided Republican caucus to be formally elected to the post. That’s because several Republican lawmakers, including U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, announced they won’t back the Louisiana legislator on the House floor, depriving Scalise of the 217 votes he needs to claim the speakership.
