Gov. Kemp: Pirelli to Invest $1.2 Billion in Georgia Expansion
Staff reports, Gov. Kemp on Tuesday announced that Pirelli, a world leader in tire production, will create 1,000 new jobs as part of a multi-year, $1.2 billion expansion of its existing facility in Rome, Georgia. Governor and First Lady Kemp previously met with Pirelli’s executives while leading an economic mission to Italy in 2024, laying the groundwork for this announcement.

Georgia Power, Google to upgrade Plant Vogtle
Miguel Legoas reports, on Monday, Georgia Power announced via press release an agreement with Google to support upgrades to portions of Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro and Plant Hatch in Baxley. Once the work is completed, it would increase the electric grid’s power capacity by approximately 96 megawatts.

Flint Riverkeeper finds high E. coli levels after Atlanta airport sewage spill
Pamela Kirkland reports that Flint Riverkeeper said its testing found E. coli levels too high to count at multiple locations downstream of last week’s sewage spill at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The environmental group collected water samples after an estimated 30,000 gallons of untreated sewage reached Sullivan Creek from a wastewater lift station at the airport last Wednesday.

Lights over Buc-ee’s interstate exit dimmer – but not to help baby turtles

GA senator questions DOJ over license plate reader camera misuse cases
Irene Wright reports, more than two dozen law enforcement officials, both sworn officers and civilian staff members, have been accused of misusing and abusing automated license plate reader cameras (ALPRs) and their data in the state of Georgia in recent months. The most well-known camera operator, Flock Safety, is based in Atlanta and was founded by graduates of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a connection that caused the city to be an early adopter of the technology.
