National Barbecue Month

May is National Barbecue Month and what better way to celebrate than at the Atlanta History Center’s mouth-watering, stomach-growling tribute to one of America’s most beloved food traditions. The Barbecue Nation exhibit, now through June 16, 2019, explores how this iconic practice has claimed an enduring place on our tables.

The exhibition includes images, artifacts and oral histories from community gatherings, festivals, restaurants, archives and museums. Included are cookbooks, postcards, place settings and menus from famous barbecue joints as well as a collection of vintage grills that show the evolution of backyard cooking. Traditions ranging from Southern to international grilling are highlighted, .

In addition, a line-up of special programs accompanies the exhibition, including:

Screening of the film Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ and panel discussion on May 23
Cooking demonstrations by Michael Twitty on June 16-17
Hogtoberfest dinner on October 5
