Celebrating engineering excellence

The Academy Awards had serious competition recently from the inaugural Georgia Engineering Excellence Awards – and there were no winner mix-ups. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia (ACEC Georgia) and the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers (GSPE) hosted the celebration of our state’s exceptional engineers, engineering projects and industry achievements. More than 400 were on hand at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center to applaud wining projects designed by Georgia engineers across the Southeast. Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure Inc., took the Engineering Excellence Grand Prize for its work on the Porsche Cars North America Headquarters/Aerotropolis project in Atlanta. In addition, category-specific excellence awards were presented to eight firms, including American Engineers Inc.; Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company Inc.; CH2M; Croy Engineering; Emprise Corp.; Hussey Gay Bell and Pond.
The event also recognized outstanding industry professionals, including Doris Willmer, P.E., LEED® AP of Willmer Engineering, who received the 2017 Lifetime Achievement in Engineering Award; and Daniel Agramonte, P.E., M.ASCE of OBG, who was named Georgia Engineer of the Year.
“The success of this event is a testament to the tremendous support the engineering community has for one another and we are excited to be able to recognize the essential work all engineers do every day to keep Georgia and its residents moving forward,” says Michael “Sully” Sullivan, president and CEO of ACEC Georgia.
