Shan Cooper and Doug Hertz Named 2027 Georgia Trustees

Staff reports that the Georgia Historical Society (GHS) announced today that Shan Cooper, trailblazing businesswoman and civic leader, and Doug Hertz, leading businessman and philanthropist, have been named the 2027 Georgia Trustees. It is the highest honor the State of Georgia can confer.

Savannah Sicurella reports, after months of twists and turns, the blockbuster deal combining two of Hollywood’s most storied institutions has closed, beginning a new chapter for CNN and the former Turner Broadcasting networks that helped establish Atlanta as a global media powerhouse. Paramount has acquired Warner Bros. Discovery in a $111 billion deal to become Skydance, under the tutelage of co-CEO David Ellison, who shepherded the deal throughout this year, and his newly named counterpart, Ynon Kreiz.

Unusual October tropical development could form Hurricane Isaias. How it might affect GA

Kala Hunter reports, a tropical development brewing in the southeastern part of the Gulf of Mexico has caught the attention of forecasters at the National Hurricane Center and Accuweather as a potential Category 1 hurricane that could bring strong winds and rain to the South. If the tropical storm stays on it’s projected path, it could bring 4 to 8 inches of rain to western Georgia by Saturday with gusts in the Columbus area topping 60 mph Saturday through Sunday, Accuweather lead hurricane forecaster Alex Da Silva told the Ledger-Enquirer.

Atlanta Dream to start playing at State Farm Arena

Alex Jones reports, the Atlanta Dream are moving to State Farm Arena. Team officials announced on Tuesday that starting with the 2027 season, all 25 of the Dream’s home games will be played at State Farm Arena, the home of the Atlanta Hawks.

Evan Lasseter reports that one of Savannah’s major infrastructure projects received a key boost in funding last week. The City of Savannah was awarded an $11 million grant for improvements to DeRenne Avenue, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock’s office.

Greyhound moves to Augusta Transit hub, expanding travel options

Joe Hotchkiss reports that travelers in Augusta will have access to both local and interstate bus transportation from a single location after a new partnership between Augusta Transit and he parent company of bus line Greyhound. A five-year lease agreement OK’d by the Augusta Commission in August now allows FLIX/Greyhound to operate from Augusta Transit’s Transfer Facility at 1546 Broad St., the city recently announced.

Kemp suspends penalties for on-road dyed diesel after USDA secretary urges states to act

Cami Koons reports that Gov. Brian Kemp announced Tuesday evening that he will suspend penalties for dyed diesel after U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins urged governors to follow the president’s move to suspend penalties on the unrestricted use of the fuel, which is typically allowed in off-road machinery only. President Donald Trump announced Monday evening at a rally in Nebraska he would authorize highway use of dyed diesel fuel and defer the federal excise tax on the fuel to provide relief from the steep diesel prices which have hit record highs of more than $6 per gallon, nationally.
