Georgia Power and Google announce deal to pay for nuclear upgrades
Emily Jones reports that Google would help pay for upgrades to Georgia’s nuclear reactors under an agreement recently announced by Georgia Power. Georgia Power wants to upgrade four of the state’s older nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Augusta, and Plant Hatch, near Baxley, so they produce more energy.

Emory clinical trial to test potential ways to remove PFAS from humans’ bodies
Rob Spahr reports that researchers from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health announced a new clinical trial Tuesday that will test if a commonly used medication can effectively remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals,” from the body. The study, which represents one of the first large-scale trials to test a way to medically remove the dangerous chemicals from the body, will be conducted in the northwest Georgia communities of Rome and Calhoun.

Georgia senators split on college sports name, image and likeness bill
Tia Mitchell reports that the U.S. Senate is nearing final approval of a sweeping sports bill that would create national standards for name, image and likeness contracts in college sports while also clarifying standards for athletes’ healthcare, academic progress and eligibility. The Protect College Sports Act has received strong bipartisan support during procedural votes on the Senate floor, enough to avoid a filibuster and well above the majority needed for final approval.
