GOP’s Jones, Jackson in runoff to face former Atlanta mayor Bottoms for governor

Sarah Kallis reports that former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms won the Democratic primary for Georgia governor and will face the winner of a Republican runoff for the post, according to race calls by the Associated Press. Bottoms served as mayor of Atlanta for one term from 2017 to 2021.

The operator of the third-busiest cargo port in the United States has agreed to invest $8 million or more for a feasibility study into deepening and widening the 33-mile-long shipping channel.

Port of Savannah volumes dip in April, but officials expected it

Evan Lasseter reports, the Port of Savannah saw in April a 14% decrease in container volumes compared to the same month last year, which was a record April for the Georgia Ports Authority, GPA officials announced Tuesday at the authority’s May board meeting. The year-over-year decrease in April’s container traffic is primarily due to GPA chasing the high volumes of last year when shippers frontloaded cargo ahead of planned tariffs.

Battery Storage Factory Involving Major Chinese Energy Player Planned for Jackson County

Trevor Williams reports, a joint venture to make battery energy storage systems for industrial facilities is set to begin production in Jackson County this summer. NeoVolta, a California-based firm that previously focused solely on home BESS systems, is branching into the commercial space with a new entity in Pendergrass, Ga., that will involve, in a roundabout way, one of China’s largest solar panel manufacturers.
