Unofficial Guide: Eat, Visit, Do, and Shop
Tucker dining, Columbus space exploring, Providence Canyon hiking, and Carrollton book browsing.
“What should we do this weekend?
Easy question, but often the answer is hard to figure out.
In that light, sometimes we like to share some of our favorite things about Georgia – places to eat, sights to visit, things to do, stores to shop. Follow along as we take you to all corners of the state in this series.
EAT: Matthews Cafeteria in Downtown Tucker has been serving up Southern comfort food since 1955. When you’ve got a craving for a good ole meat & three, head over to see them. Their menu changes daily, so you may decide you’re a “Tuesday person” instead of a “Friday person.” Personally, I’m a Wednesday girl!
VISIT: The Coca-Cola Space Science Center at Columbus State University is a gem in West Georgia. Explore the interactive exhibits, see the large collection of NASA memorabilia, and blast off on a mission-style experience to the International Space Station.
DO: Are you a hiker? Visit Providence Canyon State Park in Stewart County, as it’s one of Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. Known as the Little Grand Canyon, there are 16 different canyons to hike and explore, plus a whole lot more if you’re not really into the hiking thing.
SHOP: Imagine the stories that have originated in a shop that has sold textbooks, furniture, sewing machines, china, and even caskets. I’m sure there is much local lore that Horton’s Books & Gifts in Carrollton has been part of over the last 135 years (yes, you read that right). If “bookstore that used to sell caskets” didn’t catch your attention, maybe the 4 store cats and 1 store ghost will.
