Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist not worried about Atlanta’s population decrease
Staff reports that slightly more people from within the US left metro Atlanta than moved to it during a 12-month period. But Atlanta Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Dr. Jerry Parrish says two other areas increased. “International migration, and then the net natural increase, which is births minus deaths, make up the other components of population increase,” Parrish reports.

Wildfire burning on Cumberland Island
Gordon Jackson reports that a wildfire burning since Sunday on Cumberland Island National Seashore has consumed an estimated three to five acres. The blaze is burning on the 17-mile long barrier island’s marsh side in a designated wilderness area called Table Point.

When a proposed massive office/warehouse park will now be heard by Hall planning commission
Jeff Gill reports that the second phase of what could be a 1.7 million-square-foot office/warehouse park is proposed off Ga. 365 in northeast Hall County. North Oconee Industrial Park’s 135-acre first phase calling for 1.1 million square feet in building space was approved in February 2023 with a rezoning by the Hall County Board of Commissioners.

Zaxby’s donates $25,000 to support BCSD breakfast program
Staff reports that Baldwin County School District’s Nutrition Department has received a $25,000 donation from the Zaxby’s family, led by the Avants Management Group, to support the district’s elementary school breakfast program. The donation, made through the newly-established Mustard Seed Trust, marks the first community gift from the fund — and a meaningful return to the roots of the Zaxby’s brand.

Georgia health commission hasn’t met this year despite looming federal spending cuts

Brian Kemp and state lawmakers to evaluate health care challenges facing low-income Georgians has not met this year, despite the drastic changes debated in Washington that culminated earlier this month with the passage of massive health-care spending cuts in President Trump’s historic tax-and-spending bill.

Panel floats limits for artificial intelligence in Georgia courtrooms as odd cases pop up elsewhere
Ross Williams reports, in an attempt to ensure Georgia courts can transition into the age of artificial intelligence as smoothly as possible, a special committee established in August by now-retired Chief Justice Michael P. Boggs dug into the issue. That panel issued a report this month reviewing the use of AI in Georgia courts and producing a list of eight recommendations intended to maintain public faith in the judicial system as use of the technology expands.

Rich McCormick rules out US Senate run in Georgia as GOP field takes shape
Greg Bluestein, Tia Mitchell, Patricia Murphy and Adam Beam report, the Senate dominoes are falling. U.S. Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Suwanee, has ruled out a challenge to Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff in 2026, according to a senior aide. The decision provides more clarity for a growing GOP field that already includes U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter and Insurance Commissioner John King.
