Economic Development Around the State
Macon Expansion: Paper products manufacturer Irving Tissue is expanding to the tune of $600 million in Macon. The expansion will add a third paper-making machine, more converting lines and a fully automated warehouse, increasing annual manufacturing capacity by 75,000 metric tons. It will also create at least 100 new jobs to add to the 400 employees who already work at the existing facility, which opened in 2017.
Jackson Distribution: Automated warehouse services company GreenBox Systems LLC is investing $144 million to open a new distribution facility in Butts County. Located at The Cubes at RiverPark, the 1-million-square-foot facility will employ more than 300 when it opens in late 2025.
Cedartown Recycling: Tech-based solar recycling company SOLARCYCLE is investing an additional $62 million into its current expansion in Polk County. The newly acquired 255,000-square-foot facility will employ 640 people when it opens across the street from the previously announced 1.1-million-square-foot glass factory, which itself will employ 617 people. The facility uses recycled materials from retired solar panels to make specialized solar glass.
Waynesboro Transformers: TMC Transformers USA Inc., which manufactures dry-type transformers for industrial applications, is expanding in Burke County. The $15.3 million project will create 110 new jobs over the next five years, with the new facility expected to be operational by early 2026. TMC opened its first U.S. production plant in Burke County in early 2023.
Atlanta Innovation: Global insurance company American International Group Inc. is establishing an innovation hub in DeKalb County, tripling the company’s existing Atlanta-area office space to accommodate more than 1,000 employees, including 600 new hires in the next five years. The innovation hub is set to open in 2026.
Aerospace Manufacturing: Virginia-based KIHOMAC is opening a 130,000-square-foot aerospace manufacturing plant in Warner Robins, adding 75 new full-time manufacturing and engineering jobs to the region. The facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The small veteran-owned business specializes in military aircraft parts.
