Tourism Impact: In 2023, Georgia welcomed 5 million more visitors than in 2022, reaching a new high of 171 million tourists who spent $43.6 billion at the state’s hotels, restaurants, transportation and other local businesses. In total, Georgia travel and tourism generated a $79.7 billion economic impact statewide. Plus, for the fourth consecutive year, the state maintained its No. 5 market share ranking among all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
Lyons Auto: Automotive supplier Shinsung Petrochemical is investing $11.2 million to build a new manufacturing facility in Toombs County. The location, which will create more than 30 new jobs when it begins operations in 2025, will be a key supplier for the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant in Bryan County.
Tech Hub: Food producer Cargill is establishing a new technology hub in Midtown Atlanta. The Minnesota-based company will hire up to 400 people in data engineering, generative AI and other critical fields over the next few years.
Augusta Recycling: Aurubis AG recently celebrated the grand opening of its $800 million facility in Augusta. With the expansion, the plant will be able to process more than 180,000 tons of complex recycling materials like circuit boards and copper cable annually and will provide more than 230 jobs.
Fintech HQ: Portuguese software developer ebankIT is establishing its U.S. headquarters in Atlanta. The company offers a digital banking platform used by millions of companies in 11 countries.
Rome Expansion: VT Industries plans to invest $1.6 million in a facility on 21 acres at the Battery Business Complex to expand its footprint in Floyd County. The company makes architectural wood doors and countertops.
New Arts Venue: The Atlanta Opera is getting a new home. The historic Bobby Jones Clubhouse on Woodward Way along the Atlanta Beltline will be transformed into a $45 million performing arts center featuring a nature-inspired recital hall, an immersive theater venue, educational spaces, a rehearsal area and offices. It’s expected to be completed by summer 2027.
