Where are our past 40 Under 40 recipients?
Looking Back, Moving Forward
Each year, Georgia Trend recognizes 40 of the most successful and civic-minded people in the state under the age of 40. If you’ve lived in Georgia for a while and keep up with politics, law, sports or the Atlanta restaurant scene, you’ve probably heard the names Michael P. Boggs, Warrick Dunn and Pano I. Karatassos. But before they were, respectively, the chief justice of the state Supreme Court, a Georgia Sports Hall of Famer and an internationally recognized culinary leader, they were part of Georgia Trend’s 40 under 40.
Boggs, who was honored in 2002, was a state representative and attorney at the time. Two years later, he was elected to the Waycross Judicial Superior Court as presiding judge and in 2012 was appointed to the Court of Appeals, before his appointment to the Supreme Court of Georgia in 2016.
Dunn, who was selected in 2005, was a running back for the Atlanta Falcons, where he played six seasons. He later went on to be a minority shareholder in the team and was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. He is also a philanthropist who has been running the Warrick Dunn Family Foundation for 22 years. The nonprofit assists single parents with homeownership.
Karatossos, who was also recognized in 2005, was executive chef at the (then) relatively new Buckhead Life restaurant Kyma. Over the years, the upscale Greek restaurant has received coverage in such publications as In Style, Esquire and Wine Spectator. His Greek-inspired cookbook, Modern Greek Cooking, came out in September 2018.
This year’s 40 under 40 class is also filled with talented up-and-comers in government, law, sports and hospitality. And if history is any indication, the work they do for their companies, their communities and the state will have an impact for decades to come.
