Georgia Power unveils new Moody Battery Facility
Shane Thomas reports that Georgia Power cut the ribbon on its new battery energy storage facility near Moody Air Force Base Thursday morning. The new Moody Battery Facility is a state-of-the-art 49.5-megawatt battery energy storage system, and one of the first in Georgia to be connected to solar power and the third completed in Georgia Power’s fleet.

Savannah Sicurella reports that Delta Air Lines was approached by competitor United Airlines last year about a potential merger, a deal that would have combined two of the country’s largest carriers, a new report says. Though the talks didn’t progress, leadership with Atlanta-based Delta discussed the approach and merits of the potential deal, according to The Wall Street Journal.

House NDAA blocks planned service cuts at Eisenhower hospital
Staff reports, the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed this fiscal year’s National Defense Authorization Act. The sweeping defense policy bill includes language aimed at preventing service reductions at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon. U.S. Rep. Rick Allen said in a news release issued Wednesday that he secured provisions in the House-passed legislation requiring the reversal of plans to convert Eisenhower Army Medical Center into an ambulatory care center and prohibiting future reductions in the facility’s scope of medical services.

Advocates puzzled after HIV is left off of Georgia’s ‘medically frail’ list for Medicaid work rules
Alander Rocha reports that low-income Georgians living with HIV would not be counted as “medically frail” under a state proposal still under consideration and would therefore have to satisfy work requirements to qualify for Medicaid coverage. As of now, state officials plan to exclude HIV from a list of medical conditions that would exempt Georgians from Medicaid work requirements, and that omission has been met with concerns from Georgia health advocates.

Kemp touts data centers, calls AI “scary” but essential
Ty Tagami reports that Gov. Brian Kemp weighed in on the rush to develop artificial intelligence, calling the technology “scary” while also welcoming data centers to Georgia and criticizing others who would pause their development. “I’m not saying we need a data center in every community that’s out there, but to have a moratorium just like the governor of New York did and what Keisha Lance Bottoms is proposing — to me, is irresponsible,” Kemp said in a video interview with POLITICO Energy published Monday.
