Pro women’s soccer team could be headquartered in Marietta

Hunter Riggall reports that the National Women’s Soccer League has awarded an expansion franchise to Arthur Blank, owner of the Marietta-based Atlanta United MLS club, according to a report in The Athletic. The team will be owned and operated by Blank’s AMB Sports and Entertainment, which also owns Atlanta United, the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, per the report, which cited unnamed sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Partial SNAP funding fuels hopes of food relief in Georgia

Beau Evans reports, partial funding for low-income food assistance is set to resume Tuesday in Georgia amid the ongoing federal government shutdown that paused benefits earlier this month. More than 1.4 million residents receiving benefits from the Supplemental Food Assistance Program will begin receiving 65% of their monthly SNAP allotment as of Nov. 11, according to officials with the Georgia Department of Human Services in charge of local SNAP funding.

U.S. Senate plan to reopen government could throttle a booming new industry

Ty Tagami reports, if Congress ultimately approves the legislation that the U.S. Senate adopted Monday to end the government shutdown, it could throttle the multibillion dollar hemp consumables industry. A provision tucked into the nearly 400-page appropriations bill would close what critics consider a loophole in a 2018 federal law that legalized the sale and use of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, from the hemp plant.
