Gov. Kemp to Lead State Delegation at SEUS-Japan
Staff reports that Gov. Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp are continuing an international economic development mission that will close with the 2025 Southeastern U.S.- Japan Conference (SEUS-Japan) in Tokyo. In addition to the conference, the delegation will meet with existing industries in Japan.

Carter’s to cut 150 stores, 300 office jobs. Tariffs are a big reason why.
Amy Wenk reports that Atlanta-based baby and children’s apparel maker Carter’s plans to cut 300 jobs, or 15% of its office workforce, and slash retail locations as the company contends with cost increases from new tariffs. The company said Monday it expects to close about 150 stores in North America over the next three years as the leases expire.

Perdue inducted into the National Agricultural Hall of Fame
Staff reports that Sonny Perdue — former Georgia governor, former U.S. Agriculture secretary and current chancellor of the state’s University System — was inducted into the National Agriculture Hall of Fame Thursday in Kansas City, Kansas. Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper announced Perdue’s induction Monday.

Chatham County absentee ballots go missing in mail
Craig Nelson reports that Chatham County’s voter registration office said Friday that some absentee ballots issued for next month’s elections were lost in the mail, adding that it was “actively working” to remedy what the office’s supervisor termed a “technical error.” The public acknowledgement comes 12 days before elections that are expected, due to low voter turnout, to be decided by razor-thin margins.

Rep. Bishop: End shutdown, save health credits

Sanford Bishop, Democrat of Georgia, used a Friday stop in Macon to call for an end to the federal government shutdown and to urge congressional Republicans to immediately extend tax credits offered through the Affordable Care Act. The congressman, appearing at the Buck Melton Community Center in the afternoon hours, was flanked by Macon-Bibb County commissioners Stanley Stewart and Elaine Lucas as he spoke to a handful of Maconites.

Thousands of preschoolers could lose access to Head Start due to shutdown
Shauneen Miranda reports that funding for scores of Head Start programs hung in the balance as the government shutdown continued Monday without an end in sight. Unless a deal is reached to end the ongoing funding lapse that began Oct. 1, more than 65,000 children in 140 local Head Start programs across 41 states and Puerto Rico will not get their federal grant funding come Nov. 1, according to the National Head Start Association.
