Kemp’s office says South Korea committed to ‘all state and federal laws’ after raid

Latrice Williams reports that Gov. Brian Kemp’s office has released a statement regarding the relationship between Georgia and South Korea after the raid at the megasite Sept. 4. In the weeks following a major immigration raid at the Hyundai megasite near Savannah, Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp has expressed his desire to maintain the state’s business relationships with South Korea and plans to proceed with a previously arranged plan to visit the country in October.

Gov. Kemp Recognizes Workforce Development Month; Announces Third Workforce Summit

Staff reports that Gov. Kemp has proclaimed September as Workforce Development Month in Georgia, recognizing the critical role of education, training, and talent development in keeping the state competitive and promoting prosperity for hardworking Georgians. Building on Governor Kemp’s unveiling of the Top State for Talent initiative last year, he announced that the third annual Governor’s Workforce Summit will be held October 20–21 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Mableton chemical plant applies for air quality permit for new process area

Compass Chemical International, LLC manufactures specialty chemicals such as phosphonates and additives for water treatment and oil and gas markets.

With October Visit, Aruba Startups Eye Atlanta for U.S. Market Entry

Trevor Williams reports that ten startups from the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba will fly north to Atlanta in October on a trip aimed at exploring the city’s promise as a gateway into the U.S. market. The island, known more for tourism over technology, is to send some of its best entrepreneurs on a weeklong trip hosted by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Atlanta and led by StartAruba.

$95 million Athens housing and commercial project to break ground in 2026

Wayne Ford reports that new housing and commercial development that will ultimately have about 600 housing units and space for retail and commercial businesses will break ground in the late spring of 2026 in Athens. The $95 million project, called “The Shoals,” is located on an approximately 90-acre site along Barnett Shoals Road between Lexington Road and the Lakewood Hills Senior Village.

Christian schools, Amazon attract most Georgia voucher school dollars

Georgia senators demand answers on more than a dozen deaths in immigration detention

Ximena Bustillo reports that Georgia’s Democratic senators are asking Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to provide more information on recent deaths in immigration detention centers, including the conditions of detainees. Since President Trump took office, 15 people have died in immigration detention, 10 of those deaths occurred between January and June, Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock wrote in a letter shared exclusively with NPR.

GOP keeps hold on north Atlanta suburbs with solid win in Senate election

Ty Tagami reports that Republican Jason Dickerson cruised to a strong finish ahead of a Democratic challenger in the special election Tuesday to fill a vacant state Senate seat in the northern suburbs of metro Atlanta. Dickerson, a businessman from Canton in Cherokee County, took about 60% of the vote against Alpharetta lawyer Debra Shigley in the low turnout race, winning with a commanding majority that was still smaller than Republican margins last year.
