Betty Darby reports, for decades, McIntosh County has been a sleepy place, drowsing away on marsh banks and under live oaks. Darien, the county’s only municipality (and tied with Augusta as Georgia’s second-oldest city) essentially remains a working shrimping village. The county hosts not a single traffic light, unless you count two blinking ones scattered over its 431 square miles.

Hyundai to Invest $2.7B in Georgia, Showing Commitment Despite Immigration Raid
Trevor Williams reports, even after a Sept. 4 immigration raid that threw a wrench into its operations, Hyundai Motor Group this week said Thursday it would invest $2.7 billion more in Georgia, clarifying plans to create thousands more jobs at its Metaplant near Savannah. Hyundai announced earlier this year that it would basically double down on the $20.5 billion the conglomerate has already invested in the United States, but it hadn’t said how its Georgia car facilities would be affected.

City commission to hold homelessness roundtable on Monday
Taylor Cooper reports that city commissioners will hold a special-called meeting on Monday to brainstorm ways to assist local charities and nonprofits in helping the homeless population or fill in the gaps in existing services. “The discussion around that will be multifaceted. We don’t normally have time or an opportunity to sit as a group and brainstorm, so it’s going to really be a brainstorming session,” Commissioner Lance Sabbe said.

Arby’s Foundation Grants $243,000 to Local Georgia Nonprofits

Atlanta-based journalist ordered deported after covering anti-Trump protest
Emily Wu Pearson reports that Mario Guevara, a Spanish language journalist who runs MGNews, was ordered by the Board of Immigration Appeals on Friday to be deported to El Salvador. After the decision, the American Civil Liberties Union called for his immediate release from detention and flagged concerns for his safety if he is deported.

Democrats’ chief visits Georgia to campaign with state Senate candidate as runoff enters homestretch
