PSC hears Georgia Power rate freeze plan

Dave Williams reports that executives representing Georgia Power and the state’s energy regulating agency Thursday defended the utility’s plan to freeze rates against accusations that the temporary pause won’t stop customer bills from increasing. Georgia Power and the state Public Service Commission’s Public Interest Advocacy (PIA) Staff reached agreement last month to freeze the company’s base rates for the next three years.

Truist Park, Battery revenues continue to outpace county debt service

Isabelle Manders reports, the county’s partnership with the Atlanta Braves through Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta continues to improve as investment grows, providing more revenue into the county’s general fund than its debt obligation, according to the county’s chief financial officer. Last year, Cobb CFO Bill Volckmann shared that Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta produced more property tax revenue than Cobb County paid from its general fund to service its debt on the project.

NASA reported the incident on their website, saying a probable meteorite fell somewhere near Blacksville, Georgia, approximately an hour southeast of downtown Atlanta.

National Weather Service confirms EF-1 tornado in Upson County with winds of 95 miles per hour

Melissa Nord and Molly Oak report that the National Weather Service surveyed damage in Upson County Thursday afternoon, confirming that a tornado moved through the area during an overnight storm. The tornado, an EF-1, had winds of 95 miles per hour.
