Economic Development Around the State
Smyrna Safety: Flock Safety, which provides security technology such as cameras and license plate readers, is opening a 97,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Cobb County. The $10 million investment will create some 210 jobs over the next three years.
Roswell Support Services: Building materials solutions provider CRH is investing $1.7 million into a new finance and accounting shared services center in Roswell to support its Americas Materials Solutions business, which is headquartered in Atlanta. The new facility will create more than 300 new jobs, with plans to be fully staffed by 2029.
Delivering Jobs: Amazon recently opened a 90,000-square-foot delivery station in Columbus that is bringing 200 jobs to the region, including 100 driver positions. It is the first Amazon facility in Columbus. Delivery stations are warehouses that receive packages after they have gone through Amazon’s fulfillment and sorting centers; packages are then loaded onto vehicles for delivery to customers.
Payment Processing: Payments processor Stripe – which has dual headquarters in San Francisco and Dublin – is opening a 3,000- square-foot office in Atlanta this fall that will house more than 50 employees. The company has also applied for a special-purpose state banking charter to enable it to process credit card transactions directly, without partnering with a bank.
New Restaurants: Texas-based Layne’s Chicken Fingers is entering the Georgia fast-casual restaurant market. The first of 18 locations across Metro Atlanta opened in Roswell at the end of April as part of the company’s goal to open 50 locations by the end of this year and approximately 250 locations nationwide in the next five years. Mike Layne, the restaurant’s founder, is a Georgia native.
More Data Centers: A $4.7 million data center project is planned in Floyd County. Atlas Development, which is also looking to develop data centers in Bartow and Coweta counties, proposed the 2.4-million-square-foot project, which would require rezoning. Its target completion date is 2032.
