Economic Development Around the State
Record-breaking Exports: Georgia enjoyed a fourth consecutive year of record-breaking exports, with more than $53.1 billion in 2024. This is a year-over-year increase of 6.4% that outpaced the national average of 2.3%. The state also moved up to sixth in the U.S. for dollar value of trade, facilitating more than $198.7 billion to 222 countries and territories around the world. The state’s No. 1 export remained civilian aircraft and ancillary parts.
Roswell Jet Engines: Turbojet engine designer and manufacturer PBS Aerospace is establishing its North American headquarters, manufacturing and R&D operations in Roswell. The $20 million investment will create at least 95 jobs.
Atlanta Batteries: Duracell is investing $56 million to establish its global R&D headquarters at Georgia Tech’s Science Square in Atlanta. The offices will add 110 new jobs for Georgians to the existing 675 employees at its LaGrange and Fairburn facilities.
Biomedical Recycling: Biopharmaceutical company Takeda recently opened its new 8,000-square-foot biomedical waste processing facility in Stanton Springs in Newton County. The $10 million investment will divert about 441 tons of waste from landfills this year.
Peachtree City Plastics: Czech plastics producer Silon AG has expanded its factory, warehouse and headquarters campus in Peachtree City by 21,000 square feet, adding a production line to accommodate demand in the U.S.
Ports Expansion: The Georgia Ports Authority is moving forward with a $73.5 million project to expand its gate capacity at the Ocean Terminal in Savannah. The new complex will host 12 inbound truck lanes and six outbound lanes, adding to the existing five-lane gate at the terminal. The expansion will increase its current 250,000 annual twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) to more than 1.5 million TEUs.
More Data: Another data center is set to come online in Metro Atlanta. TPA Group is planning to develop a nine-building data center campus containing nearly 2.6 million square feet of space in Newton County. The 317-acre project would be completed in 2031.
