2025 Georgia Trustees

In 1732, England’s King George II appointed the first Georgia Trustees to establish the new colony of Georgia, with the motto “not for self  but for others.”

To be named a Trustee is considered the highest honor the state can confer.

This year’s Georgia Trustees are Walter M. “Sonny” Deriso, Jr., banker, attorney and civic leader, and Craig Menear, the retired chair and CEO of The Home Depot. The two will formally be honored on April 26 at the Trustees Gala in Savannah.

Like those who preceded them, Deriso and Menear reflect the ideals of those original Trustees. Both are tremendously accomplished and have a strong desire to serve others, and both are widely admired by their peers.
