Georgia economy expected to slow in 2025, but remain stronger than nation overall

Benjamin Payne reports, Georgia’s economy will likely see slower but continued growth in 2025, according to forecasters at the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual outlook meeting. University of Georgia Terry College of Business dean Ben Ayers told attendees Wednesday that although employment gains will moderate compared to last year, they should still outpace the national average.

Hundreds of Delta flights canceled Saturday, long lines and crowds fill Hartsfield-Jackson

Kelly Yamanouchi and Emma Hurt report that Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines canceled more than 370 flights Saturday, and long lines of travelers waiting to go through security stretched through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport’s domestic terminal and baggage claim areas. The disruptions were the fallout of Delta’s struggles during a Friday winter storm at its Atlanta hub that continued into a second day, and TSA warns that Sunday may be congested as well.

Miguel Legoas and Mike Snider report that another major chain is seeing broken links, including a few in Georgia. Macy’s has named 66 of the 150 stores that it’s planning to close as part of its revitalization plan.

Georgia’s fourth case of bird flu detected in backyard chicken flock in metro Atlanta

Ross Williams reports that the Georgia Department of Agriculture announced it had detected a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, sometimes called bird flu, in a small, backyard flock of chickens and ducks in Clayton County. This is the fourth detection of HPAI in Georgia since a nationwide outbreak began in February 2022, according to the department.

Diane Wagner reports that the first ever sled dog competition in Rome will take place this coming weekend, with racers from 15 states and Germany signed up to participate. The Capitolina Dryland Challenge is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the GE Trails, 1935 Redmond Circle.
