Ga. University System Sets Enrollment Record
Dave Williams reports, Dave Williams reports that University System of Georgia has hit an all-time high for student enrollment this fall. Nearly 365,000 students are enrolled at the system’s 26 public colleges and universities, an increase of more than 20,000, or 5.9%, compared to last fall, Angela Bell, the system’s vice chancellor for research and policy analysis, told the Board of Regents on Tuesday.

Reginald “Reg” Murphy, former journalist for The Telegraph and esteemed newspaper publisher and editor for outlets across the U.S., has died at 90, according to his alma mater, Mercer University. Murphy, born in 1934, was a pivotal newsman during the Civil Rights Movement, Jimmy Carter’s campaign for governor and president, and Martin Luther King’s political influence on Atlanta, according to the Digital Library of Georgia.

Rally Foundation awards $350,000 grant to Winship Cancer Institute
Bob Pepalis reports that Sandy Springs-based Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research awarded a $350,000 grant to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory, which made it the largest single-year donation the nonprofit organization has made to Emory’s pediatric cancer research program. The foundation has provided more than $35 million in research grants for childhood cancer studies worldwide since its founding in 2005.
