Trump clinches a key victory in swing state Georgia

Stephen Fowler reports, former President Donald Trump has won Georgia and its 16 electoral votes, according to a race call by the Associated Press, striking a blow to Democrats’ chances in the Sun Belt and narrowly flipping a state where he faces criminal charges for trying to overturn his 2020 defeat.

Wisconsin-based developer Gorman & Co. has been tapped to redevelop the abandoned brick Art Moderne style building at 143 Alabama St. SW that over the years has been home to The Atlanta Constitution newspaper and a Georgia Power facility.

Hartsfield-Jackson To Get $14.3 Million Grant

Staff reports that U.S. Senators the Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff recently announced new federal resources to upgrade Georgia’s airports through the bipartisan infrastructure law. As part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will get $14.3 million for the rehabilitation, modernization and expansion of public restrooms in the terminal concourses.

Judge halts use of new Sapelo Island zoning rules

Michael Hall reports that McIntosh County must temporarily halt permitting any new projects in Sapelo Island’s Hog Hammock district that fall under a controversial zoning amendment passed last year that allows larger homes to be built there, a judge ordered this week. Tifton Judicial Circuit Senior Judge Gary McCorvey ruled on Monday in favor of a motion filed by three Hog Hammock, also called Hogg Hummock, residents seeking an injunction to stop the county from using the zoning rules passed Sept. 12, 2023.

Bishop returns to Congress, Brian Jack claims victory in Congressional race

Ross Williams reports that Democratic Congressman Sanford Bishop of Albany will return to Washington for a 17th term after defeating Wayne Johnson of Macon, a former Trump administration official, in the 2nd Congressional District in the southwest corner of the state. The Associated Press called the race shortly before 10:30 p.m. on election night.

Annie Mayne reports, hours after the final voters cast their ballots Tuesday night, incumbent Democrat Lisa Cupid led Republican challenger Kay Morgan in the race for Cobb’s top elected position. With 99% of precincts reporting by midnight Tuesday, Cupid had 215,014 or 55.03% of the vote to Morgan’s 175,717 votes.
