Gov. Kemp Announces New Disaster Relief Measure for Georgia Farmers
Staff reports, Gov. Kemp on Friday announced the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission (GSFIC) has unanimously approved a proposal redirecting $100 million to the Georgia Development Authority (GDA) for the purpose of providing disaster relief financial support for farmers and debris cleanup for timber producers impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Coca-Cola, Pepsi hit with lawsuit over recyclability of plastic bottles
Savannah Sicurella reports that Atlanta-based Coca-Cola and its rival PepsiCo are entangled in a lawsuit filed in California that alleges they misled the public about the recyclability of their plastic bottles. Los Angeles County filed suit against the corporations Wednesday, claiming the two made consumers believe that purchasing their products in single-use plastic is an environmentally responsible choice, further alleging the companies knew the bottles cannot be recycled in a way that meaningfully reduces harm.

Colonial Oil signs agreement to sell Enmarket stores to Nouria out of Massachusetts
Joseph Schwartzburt reports, Enmarket stores will become part of the fast-growing Nouria convenience store chain. According to a press release posted to Newswire on Oct. 31, the northeast retailer signed a definitive agreement with Savannah-based Colonial Oil Group, Inc. to acquire Enmarket, the convenience retailer chain established by Robert Demere, scion of Colonial Oil’s founder, in 1963.

Staff reports that Halloween night, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger released a warning to voters: Social media posts may include disinformation from foreign sources. “Earlier today, our office became aware of a video purporting to show a Haitian immigrant with multiple Georgia ID’s claiming to have voted multiple times,” he wrote.

Navigable Stream Study Committee Last Scheduled Public Meeting Nov. 13
Adam Carey reports, a special House Study Committee on Navigable Streams is scheduled to have their last public meeting on Nov. 18 in Newnan before making a recommendation to the full general assembly. The committee — organized to determine where people should have the right to boat, fish and hunt on Georgia’s streams — has thus far hinted at taking a narrow view of these rights, according to Joe Cook, Paddle Georgia coordinator and guidebook author.

Judge Extends Deadline to Return Absentee Ballots for 3,000 Cobb Voters
Hunter Riggall and Isabelle Manders report, the deadline for approximately 3,000 Cobb voters to return their absentee ballot has been extended by three days. In a Friday ruling, Cobb Superior Court Senior Judge Robert Flournoy ordered the deadline extended for a group of voters affected by a delay in mailing out ballots.
