TMC Transformers to Bring 110 Jobs, New Manufacturing Facility To Burke County
Staff reports that Gov. Kemp on Thursday announced that TMC Transformers USA Inc. (TMC), an international dry-type transformers manufacturer for a wide range of industrial applications, will expand its footprint in Georgia by investing more than $15.3 million over the next five years in a new manufacturing facility in Waynesboro, creating at least 110 new jobs in Burke County.

State yanks permit for South Georgia biomass plant
Dave Williams reports that Georgia environmental regulators have revoked a permit for a wood pellet manufacturing plant in Telfair County following a legal challenge opposing the project. The state Environmental Protection Division (EPD) approved a modification of Telfair Forest Products’ air-quality permit last July without requiring the company to install legally required pollution controls or conduct air impact analyses.

Pedestrian Bridge to Get $2.5 Million Revamp for All-Star Game
Annie Mayne reports, with the 2025 MLB All-Star Game just months away from coming to Cobb, the county and the Cumberland Community Improvement District have partnered on a $2.5 million revamp of a pedestrian bridge near the festivities. The Cumberland CID’s governing board voted 5-0, with Chairman Bob Voyles and member Alex Valente absent, to allocate $1.25 million to update the footbridge connecting Cumberland Mall to the Cobb Galleria Centre, matching the county’s contribution to the project.

Northwest Georgia Jobless Numbers Up Over Last Year. What We Know

Staff reports, in a new poll released Wednesday, Congressman Sanford Bishop leads the 2nd Congressional District race by 11 percentage points, with substantial support among key voting groups. The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling last week, shows Democrat Bishop earning 51% of the vote, with Republican opponent Wayne Johnson at 40%, and 9% undecided.
