Kemp declares emergency with massive Hurricane Milton headed for Florida
Dave Williams reports that Gov. Brian Kemp issued a state of emergency Tuesday for 38 Georgia counties likely to be affected by Hurricane Milton, a massive storm expected to make landfall in west-central Florida Wednesday night. Milton intensified rapidly Monday into a Category 5 hurricane, with winds topping 180 miles an hour.

Marlon Wade reports, according to a 2023 small business report, predominantly Black neighborhoods within the city receive lower business loan amounts than other neighborhoods. In the same report, researchers found that only 20% of Black business owners are approved for loans, lines of credit and cash advances nationally, compared to 33% or more for all other racial-ethnic groups.

Georgia issues permits to pump millions of gallons of water daily to Hyundai complex
John Deem reports, a week after production commenced at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America near Savannah, state environmental officials on Monday approved permits for four wells eventually expected to send 4 million gallons of water per day to the Bryan County facility. In all, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division permits allow for the withdrawal of as much as 6.6 million gallons per day from the Bulloch County wells.

Stanley Dunlap reports Georgia State Election Board officials will seek assistance from the state Legislature to establish clearer guidelines for maintaining accurate voter lists following a tense debate Tuesday over mass voter challenges. The board voted Tuesday to ask state lawmakers to update rules so that it would be more difficult for county election boards to methodically reject thousands of challenges to voters’ eligibility that are increasingly being filed across the state.

State Election Board grappling with mass voter challenges
Dave Williams reports that Georgia counties are systematically denying mass voter challenges brought by citizen activists instead of investigating them as the law requires, State Election Board Executive Director Mike Coan said Tuesday.
