Delta Makes Strides Toward Offering Wi-Fi on All International Flights

Trevor Williams reports that Delta Air Lines Inc. has started rolling out free Wi-Fi on European flights this month, the first step in equipping its global fleet with the service by next year. Working with T-Mobile, the airline has already brought what it calls “streaming-quality” connectivity to 90 percent of its domestic fleet, about 700 planes.

Worker injuries mount as giant Hyundai project nears completion

Amira McKee reports, since construction began in January 2023, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America and six other Hyundai affiliate factories are rising ahead of schedule from 3,000 acres of clear-cut land just south of I-16. Hyundai officials say their goal is to bring their first electric vehicle off the assembly line by the end of the year — in time to make the Hyundai vehicles built there eligible for buyer incentives in the Biden Administration’s 2024 Inflation Reduction Act.

Environmental groups seeking delay in Georgia Power turbines project

Dave Williams reports that lawyers for environmental groups made a final plea to Georgia energy regulators Thursday to delay Georgia Power’s plan to build three new “dual-fuel” turbines at Plant Yates near Newnan. The Atlanta-based utility is seeking certification from the state Public Service Commission to build the new turbines, which would run mostly on natural gas but switch to ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel when and if gas is unavailable, typically on cold winter mornings.

Georgia Secretary of State criticizes Election Board’s ‘new activist rulemaking’

Staff reports that Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, on Thursday expressed opposition to proposed changes to election procedures currently under consideration by the State Election Board, particularly rejecting a suggestion to count ballots by hand at polling places on election night. The State Election Board advanced a proposal in July that would require three separate poll workers to count ballots at voting precincts on election night to ensure that they match the number of ballots recorded by voting machines.

Ga. House Study Committee Takes Up Fishing Rights Discussion

Dave Williams reports, state agency regulations may be a better way of settling the legally complex issue of public fishing rights in Georgia than new legislation, a former director of the state Environmental Protection Division said Thursday. “If rulemaking is done well, people have a chance to be heard,” Jud Turner, the only non-legislator appointed to a Georgia House study committee on fishing rights, said during the panel’s first meeting.

Abrams blasts VP candidate Vance for distorting her abortion comments

Greg Bluestein, Tia Mitchell, Patricia Murphy and Adam Van Brimmer report, tucked into a 2021 speech that JD Vance delivered to a conservative think tank, the Ohio Republican made a curious reference to Georgia voting rights activist Stacey Abrams. In the speech, first reported by the Christian Science Monitor, former President Donald Trump’s future running mate brought up Abrams’ warning that anti-abortion legislation in Georgia would be “bad for business.”
