Staff reports that the Appalachian Regional Port in Crandall had a record May for intermodal cargo, with the inland rail terminal moving 3,600 containers. The port provides an alternative to an all-truck route to and from the Port of Savannah.

Zachary Hansen reports that a Swiss logistics firm announced it will set up shop in a Dunwoody office building, anchoring its North American headquarters in metro Atlanta. Swisslog, which provides warehouse automation and software, said last week it will occupy more than 26,000 square feet within the Terraces office complex along Perimeter Center Place.

Lockheed Martin Delivers 2,700th C-130 Airlifter

Staff reports that Lockheed Martin delivered the 2,700th C-130 Hercules airlifter, built at the company’s Marietta plant. This plane is, more specifically, a KC-130J Super Hercules tanker operated by the U.S. Marine Corps Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 at Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, North Carolina, according to Lockheed.

Port Wentworth ends tourism partnership with Chamber of Commerce again

Destini Ambus reports that the City of Port Wentworth is once again ending its tourism partnership with the Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce, due to the increase in the hotel-motel tax collection, according to a press release. Since 1999, the Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce has been contracted to serve as the destination marketing organization for the city to promote the city as a tourism destination.

Projects Moving Forward: Floyd County’s Business Landscape Growing

John Bailey reports that while there aren’t many visual changes yet at large projects like the Battey Business Complex and Enterprise Corner, there’s a lot going on as Floyd County’s business landscape continues growing. Up to this point, the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority has acquired $7.6 million in federal environmental assessment and cleanup grant funds for the Battey project.

Buyer interested in ill-fated CSH buildings

Gil Pound reports, an architecture firm based in Perry, Ga has expressed interest in redeveloping three of the Central State Hospital buildings slated for demolition, a letter of intent sent to the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority states. The CSHLRA board, tasked with converting the former mental hospital properties into new uses, has asked the state to hold off on demolishing the buildings so a possible deal can be worked out with the interested party.

Stanley Dunlap reports, there has been a concerted effort by the Trump and Biden presidential campaigns to woo the Black vote during recent visits to metro Atlanta, a world away from Samuel Warren’s home in rural Ellaville, a town of about 2,000 residents, roughly one third of whom are Black. “I don’t care too much for Biden, Trump was alright. Trump helped people,” Warren said earlier this month while stopping by the Gas N Go in Ellaville for a cold drink.
