Gov Kemp: Food Solutions Company Cargill to Create 400 New Jobs in Metro Atlanta Office Hub

Staff reports, on Thursday, Gov. Kemp announced that Cargill, a global food and agriculture leader, will establish a new office hub in the City of Atlanta, creating more than 400 new jobs in the metro area. Cargill’s Digital, Technology and Data (DT&D) organization will be the initial primary occupant of the Atlanta hub.

Georgia PSC to allow arguments in railroad eminent domain case

Drew Kann reports, state utility regulators will hear new oral arguments about a powerful railroad’s plan to force property owners in one of Georgia’s poorest counties to sell portions of their land so a new rail spur to serve private businesses can be built. In a 4-0 vote, members of the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) granted the parties involved approval to present their cases before the full commission.

Sauce company to bring 267 jobs to new LaGrange facility

Staff reports, on Friday, the Georgia Department of Economic Development announced that Lee Kum Kee Sauce Group, a global name in Asian sauces and condiments, will invest up to $288 million in a new manufacturing facility in LaGrange, creating up to 267 jobs in Troup County over the next several years. The facility will produce Asian sauces and condiments to support the company’s future growth in the Americas.

Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia models to be produced at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America

Latrice Williams reports that Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America announced Tuesday the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the first vehicle manufactured at its EV plant in Black Creek. Hyundai, Genesis and Kia vehicles will also be produced at the factory.

Joe Hotchkiss reports that Augusta University’s executive vice president for administration will become the school’s new president starting July 1. Dr. Russell Keen’s appointment follows an announcement in September by AU President Brooks A. Keel that he would retire after the 2023-24 academic year, capping a 40-year education career.

The Home Depot Foundation Awards $235K to Habitat Affiliate in Smyrna

Staff reports that Smyrna-based Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta announced The Home Depot Foundation has awarded the affiliate a $235,000 grant to provide 11 critical home repairs for veterans in Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding counties. “The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to honor veterans allows them to have better health and safety outcomes, and to live safely and age in place with dignity in the homes they know and love,” said Jessica Gill, CEO, Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta.

State awards grants to 13 rural hospitals

Dave Williams reports that thirteen hospitals in rural Georgia will receive $6 million in grants through a state program that will give them a choice of how to use the money. The Georgia Department of Community Health’s Dual Track Rural Hospital Support program gives grant recipients the option of choosing between funding new or existing graduate medical education programs or providing direct hospital support.

Emory Healthcare giving out more than $100 million in raises to employees this year

Staff reports that Emory Healthcare is giving workers more than $100 million in total raises this year. Officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that those getting raises include nurses respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, radiology technicians, and food/nutrition and environmental services team members.

Tropical disturbance marks early start for hurricane season

Michael Hall reports that a tropical disturbance brewing off of Georgia’s coast has caught the attention of the National Weather Service and local emergency response managers, but it is too early to predict its impacts for the Golden Isles. The early tropical system is described by the weather service as “an area of cloudiness and thunderstorms located several hundred miles east of the Bahamas (that) is associated with a surface trough and an upper-level area of low pressure.”

Atlanta City Council approves $7.5 million water main break relief fund for businesses

Amanda Andrews reports that Atlanta City Council unanimously passed a measure Monday creating a financial relief fund for small businesses affected by the water main breaks earlier this month. The water main breaks left nearly half of Atlanta under a boil water advisory from May 31 to June 6.
