Cumming HQ: Water meter manufacturer Kamstrup recently cut the ribbon on its new headquarters in Forsyth County, where it is relocating from Roswell. The 150,000-square-foot facility includes an assembly plant, warehouse, innovation showroom and offices. The new facility will allow for the doubling of production to more than 3 million smart meters a year within five years.

Stitch Funding: The Stitch, the ambitious project to cap the interstate in downtown Atlanta with a 14-acre greenspace, received a $157 million federal grant to initiate Phase 1 of construction. The funding comes from the Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods grant program. Construction is projected to start in 2026, with an estimated completion date in 2029.

AJC Move: After more than a decade in Atlanta’s northern suburbs, first in Dunwoody then in Sandy Springs, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is returning its main office to Atlanta. The newspaper will move into its 21,000-square-foot newsroom and studio on Peachtree Street near the Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown Atlanta sometime in 2024 and plans to add an additional 100 employees over the next few years.

Life Sciences: Meissner Corp. is building a $250 million, 340-acre campus in Winterville. The company, which specializes in microfiltration and pharmaceutical products, will bring more than 1,700 jobs to the Athens-Clarke County region over the next eight years. It’s the second manufacturing campus for the company in the U.S.

Intown Construction: Another phase of Centennial Yards, the massive $5 billion, 50-acre development in “the gulch” near State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta, is coming online. Construction will begin this summer on six buildings, which will include 480,000 square feet of entertainment, retail and restaurant space. A hotel and apartment tower are already currently under construction. The aim is for the phase to be completed in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
