North Georgia Goodwill Receives $300K Grant From Coca Cola Foundation To Empower Women in Non-Traditional Roles

Staff reports that Goodwill of North Georgia recently received a $300,000 grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation to help serve women in non-traditional industries. The grant will provide workforce training programs for women to enter non-traditional occupations, with fewer than 20% women in the field, such as construction trades, maintenance technician, logistics and IT.

Spring on the horizon, buyers and sellers dive into the housing market

Kanell reports that February’s post-holiday, pre-spring, metro Atlanta housing market saw both a burst of buying and a surge of sellers although the balance still tilted to the advantage of those looking to sell, which meant that prices kept rising, according to data from the Georgia Multiple Listing Services. There were 3,916 homes sold in the 12-counties centered on Atlanta during the month, with a median price of $399,000 — up 7.1% from the same month a year ago.

Miguel Legoas reports that Augusta mayors of the past are joining the mayor of the present in an initiative that will affect mayors in the future. On Wednesday, Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson announced a ballot committee called “Augusta Stronger Together” to campaign for the mayor’s office to receive an equal vote on the Augusta Commission during meeting, which the public will vote on in a referendum during the May 21 General Primary and Nonpartisan Election.

Fulton judge dismisses six counts in Trump election interference case

Dave Williams reports that Fulton County Superior Court judge Wednesday dismissed six counts of a 41-count indictment charging former President Donald Trump and multiple co-defendants with interfering in Georgia’s 2020 president election. Judge Scott McAfee declared the six charges legally defective – including a count charging Trump in the infamous January 2021 phone call urging Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” the 11,780 additional votes he needed to carry the Peach State over Democrat Joe Biden.

Greg Bluestein, Tia Mitchell, Patricia Murphy and Adam Van Brimmer report, shocking no one, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump breezed to primary victories in Georgia and three other states on Tuesday to clinch the presidential nominations and formally kick off a November rematch. In Georgia, with 99% of the vote counted, Biden had 95.2% of the Democratic primary vote, while Trump won 84.5% of the GOP ballots. The race was no cliffhanger but was still chock full of valuable clues about the mood of the Georgia electorate eight months before the Biden-Trump sequel.
