Murals Beautify Rural Areas

Rural Mural: The Schley County mural graces the side of the building at 28 Church Street in Ellaville, on the town’s historic courthouse square.
Flint Energies, headquartered in Reynolds, is hoping to brighten up Middle Georgia one mural at a time. The company’s Rural Murals Program works with rural communities across Flint’s service territory to create murals that have a positive impact, not only by beautifying the area and supporting artists, but by boosting tourism revenue.
Flint partially funds projects that highlight positive images of Middle Georgia’s history and culture. The company’s website says the murals “are designed to bring travelers off main interstates to travel the backroads … to discover the vast resources our area has to offer.” It notes that towns with murals could get an economic boost if people spend money while stopping to view them.
So far, murals can be found in Ellaville, Oglethorpe, Roberta, Fort Valley, Buena Vista and Butler. Flint is looking to spread the program to other cities.
