Atlanta’s Spelman College receives historic $100 million donation
Collin Kelley reports that Spelman College has announced a $100 million historic gift — the largest single donation ever to a historically Black college and university (HBCU). The donation is from businesswoman and philanthropist Ronda Stryker and her husband, William Johnston, Chairman of Greenleaf Trust.

Researchers ask to expand study of Brunswick pollutants’ effects on residents
Mary Landers reports that a study of chemical exposure in Brunswick had already revealed elevated blood levels of pollutants including PCBs. But at a community meeting Tuesday Emory toxicologist Prinn Panuwet still drew applause for his succinct summary of the study’s importance.

Ragsdale Announces Location for $50 Million Event Center
Annie Mayne reports that the $50 million event building approved by the Cobb County Board of Education last March is set to be built on Glover Street next to the district’s headquarters, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale announced during the school board’s Thursday night meeting. The 8,000-seat building is being designed to host events such as science fairs, art presentations, and graduation ceremonies, and will sit on over 10 acres of property the district has acquired over decades.

State: CSH demo ‘not consistent’ with Ga. standards for treatment of historic properties
Gil Pound reports that the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Historic Preservation Division (HPD) has said the impending demolition of four former Central State Hospital buildings “is not consistent” with the state’s standards for how it treats historic properties. Preservation advocates thinking HPD’s findings will save the four structures — the Jones Building (built in 1927), Walker Building (circa 1884), Green Building (circa 1949), and wash house building — should not necessarily celebrate yet though.

Opponents of sales tax on period products ready to push Georgia lawmakers to end levy
Jill Nolin reports that a national tax policy group last year ditched the phrase “feminine hygiene products” and adopted “menstrual discharge collection devices” as its go-to term for tampons and other period products. The Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board took up the issue in response to major retailers who operate in multiple states, where questions have at times emerged over why male hygiene products were being taxed.

Tax credit to help kids aging out of foster care raises nearly $10 million

PG A.M.: Georgia Senate renews push on antisemitism bills
Greg Bluestein, Tia Mitchell, Patricia Murphy and Adam Van Brimmer report that a stalled effort to make antisemitism a hate crime in Georgia is about to get a fresh push in the Legislature. The Georgia Senate plans to revive House Bill 30 next week. Critics blocked the measure last year, arguing it could infringe on free speech rights.
