New report ranks Georgia fifth most vulnerable state to climate change in U.S.

Emily Jones reports that Georgia is one of the states most vulnerable to climate change, according to a new analysis that ranked it fifth in the country. The Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate Vulnerability Index ranked the states and looked at the county and census tract levels as well, weighing factors beyond extreme events like fires and hurricanes.

Report: Georgia big winner in clean energy jobs

The report found Georgia was second only to Michigan with the number of new or expanded clean energy projects announced since August, 2022, when President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Warehouse boom threatens coastal Georgia communities, environmental groups say

John Deem reports, fueled by Georgia’s expanding ports, an explosion in large-scale warehouses is putting water quality and communities at risk along the coasts of Georgia and southern South Carolina, a coalition of environmental organizations warned Monday. Roughly 200 million square feet of warehouse space is either operating or under construction in coastal Georgia and just across the Savannah River in Jasper County, according to data compiled by the groups.

The study, conducted by Olsberg SPI, a London-based consulting firm, found the film tax break is responsible for nearly 60,000 jobs and produces a return on investment of $6.30 for every $1 the tax incentive costs Georgia in lost tax revenue.
