Automotive Supplier Daechang Seat Corp. USA to Create 500 Jobs in Chatham County

Staff reports that Gov. Kemp yesterday announced that Daechang Seat Corp. USA, a supplier specializing in automotive seat frames, will invest $72.5 million in the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center, in close proximity to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), creating over 500 jobs. Daechang Seat Corp. (DSC) was established in 1979 in Kyungju, South Korea, and has become one of the largest seat frame producers in the world.

China curbs on graphite could roil EV supply chain in the U.S.

Drew Kann and J.Scott Trubey report that a move by China that could curtail exports of graphite may throw a wrench into the supply chains of electric vehicle and battery makers that rely on highly processed versions of the mineral to help power their fleets of plug-in automobiles. The graphite restrictions followed moves by the U.S. to curb exports of certain semiconductors American companies can sell to China.

Augusta named part of federal Tech Hub with focus on energy storage

Abraham Kenmore reports that the Augusta area has been named as part of a federal 2023 Tech Hub that also covers parts of South Carolina. The designation was announced Monday by Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff in a press release. It was established by the CHIPS and Science Act, and designated hubs are eligible to apply for $50-75 million in investment.

Atrium Health Floyd Acquires Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic

John Bailey reports that Atrium Health Floyd announced that it has acquired the Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic as the Federal Trade Commission reviews a larger acquisition proposal with Harbin Clinic. Atrium and the clinic finalized an agreement to combine, bringing Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic under the Atrium Health care delivery brand, an announcement released Monday morning stated.

Tourism Authority sees $387.8 million economic impact in Lowndes County

Kasmira Smith reports that Visit Valdosta, also known as the Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center & Tourism Authority, continues to make the county a central hub destination as it’s recently seen an increase in tourism and lodging in the county-wide area, according to reports. The findings were published in Explore Georgia’s 2022 Tourism report.

GBI report provides new details in Coffee County elections breach

Greg Bluestein and Mark Niesse report, when Fulton County prosecutors announced racketeering charges against Donald Trump and 18 others in August, they said a data breach in Coffee County was part of their alleged criminal enterprise to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election. But they weren’t the only ones investigating election interference in that rural community.
