2023 Higher Education Directory
A resource for readers about the state’s institutions of higher learning.
Now that the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, Georgia’s colleges and universities are looking ahead to a return to normal. One lasting change to come out of the pandemic, however, is less reliance on test scores for admission. A lot of colleges waived ACT and SAT scores over the past few years, and that policy is staying in place for many institutions.
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia decided not to raise tuition rates for 25 of its 26 institutions, so the cost of attending one of its colleges remains the same for the fourth year in a row. (The exception is Middle Georgia State University.) The University System of Georgia also eliminated a mandatory special institutional fee in place systemwide since 2009, reducing college costs for students starting last year.
The Technical College System of Georgia continues to expand its offerings for those entering the state’s workforce, whether through degrees in more than 600 programs at its 22 colleges throughout the state or its many workforce development programs, such as Quick Start, and expanding apprenticeship opportunities through the new High Demand Initiatives Program.
That’s good news for Georgia, which is seeing an influx of jobs, growing sectors like electric vehicles and much-needed personnel in healthcare. So no matter what field prospective students are interested in, there is an academic path here in Georgia to success.
