GCP Applied Technologies Selects Metro Atlanta as Global Headquarters, Creates 80 Jobs
Staff reports that Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) today announced that GCP Applied Technologies Inc., an international provider of construction products and technologies, will open their global headquarters in metro Atlanta, delivering 80 jobs to the region. GCP Applied Technologies currently operates multiple manufacturing facilities in Georgia.

Atlanta warehouse broker raises $65 million
Andy Peters reports, an Atlanta company that brokers warehouse space to online retailers has raised $65 million in venture capital. Stord said in a news release that San Francisco-based Bond Capital led the $65 million investment round.

Businesses, Georgians torn on orders lifting most state COVID restrictions
Jon Shirek reports that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp issued an executive order Wednesday lifting many of the pandemic restrictions on businesses and gatherings that have been in place since March of last year. The executive order takes effect April 8. But public health officials are still urging people not to live like the pandemic is over.

Trevor Williams reports that Atlanta-based Trust Stamp continued its global expansion with the purchase of a U.K.-based company that helps users log into their accounts by selecting predetermined points on an image. PixelPin’s solution can replace traditional alphanumeric pins or passwords for logging into secure environments online.

Georgia Executives Come Out Against New Voting Law
Emma Hurt reports, less than a week after Georgia’s new voting overhaul passed along party lines, two of Georgia’s most prominent corporations are speaking out against it, calling it “unacceptable.” Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey said the legislation “is a step backwards. And it does not promote principles we have stood for in Georgia around broad access to voting, around voter convenience, about ensuring election integrity.”

Gwinnett County clerk’s office will offer free ID cards for voters requesting absentee ballots

Lawmakers approve $27.2B budget for new year as federal relief flows

Way paved for college athletes to take home compensation in Georgia
Beau Evans reports that college student athletes in Georgia would start receiving financial compensation under legislation that cleared the General Assembly late Wednesday. The bill, sponsored by House Higher Education Committee Chairman Chuck Martin, R-Alpharetta, would allow Georgia athletes to earn compensation for the use of their “name, image or likeness” by the public, private or technical colleges they attend.

Laura Olson and Ariana Figueroa report that members of Congress were among the first people in the U.S. to have access to the sought-after COVID-19 vaccine when the initial doses became available in December. Three months later, a States Newsroom survey across 22 states — making up a large swath of Congress — found at least 155 members of the U.S. House and Senate have been vaccinated, based on a tally of responses from their offices and other public statements.
